The TOLES exams test the specific English that legal professionals who do not speak English as their first language need to work successfully in international corporate law.

As legal English is significantly different from everyday English, lawyers and law students need to improve their legal English language skills.

The TOLES certificates allow international lawyers and law students to provide evidence of their language skills in specific areas of knowledge that are highly valued by employers, such as  negotiations, understanding complex company documents and reading and drafting cross-border contracts drafted in English.

Studying for one of the three TOLES exams is good preparation for international lawyers intending to take the Solicitors Qualifying Exam (SQE).
